Choosing A Modern Chandelier For A Bedroom

Many people would love to hang a modern chandelier in their bedroom to create a sophisticated and elegant feel in the room, but aren’t sure whether this type of fixture is the best option for task lighting. Chandeliers actually work great as tasking lighting, especially if they are hung beside a bed (as a bedside lamp) or over the dressing area. But how do you choose one for your particular bedroom?

Look at your bedroom and try to determine what the style or the theme of the space is. There is generally a modern chandelier to suit every décor, but you wouldn’t use a streamlined metallic one if your room had beach or Parisian influences, would you? It is all about choosing a chandelier to match the modern décor used in the rest of your bedroom.

You should also look at the various materials used in your bedroom and try to choose a chandelier that uses similar elements. Do you have brushed nickel pieces in your room, or is wrought iron more the style you have gone for? If you have a lot of decorative elements (such as a beaded doorway) you could even choose a modern chandelier that is hung with similar beads.

Next, you will need to determine how much lighting your bedroom actually needs. If you plan to use your chandelier as the main source of light, it will need to be of a larger size with open bulbs. If you plan to use your modern chandelier for ambience or to highlight a feature of the room, a shaded fixture will be suitable.

Finally, when it comes to hanging your modern chandelier, you will need to ensure that there is plenty of space to walk underneath it and that it effectively lights up the space that you need it to. Often, the lighting company that you’re buying from can help you determine chandelier height on a case-by-case basis.

Change the look of your home interior with modern pendant lights

To decorate your house you might be using varieties of show pieces, statues, flowering pots, wall paintings and many more such things. But, have you ever wondered that a proper lighting too can enhance the beauty of your house? No matter how expensive and beautiful decorative items do you buy, they may fail to live up to your expectation if the lighting system is not well.

You can take up lighting ideas to improve the look of the existing interior. One such lighting idea is the modern pendant lights. These lights are a fixture that hangs straight from the ceiling. Usually, they are suspended by a cord, metallic chain or metal rod. Though, they are often used in multiples and are hung in a straight line, single light is also preferred in some locations. They look wonderful when used over dining area, kitchen countertops and in bathrooms. However, their applications are not limited to certain places. They are available in a wide variety of styles that makes them versatile to be used anywhere in the house.

These lights are quite different from others as they focus light on specific area to make that place look special. These are quite popular these days to decorate any home interior. Since they provide ambient or task lighting, they can be also hung over any beautiful statue or show piece to emphasize its beauty. Use modern pendant lights at any corner of the house, living room, kitchen or bathroom; you will be bound to fall in love with them.

Choosing Designer Pendant Lights

When choosing designer pendant lights for installation in your home, there is much more that you need to take into consideration than how attractive the piece is and how well it matches in with your décor. You need to look at the why you are looking at installing a pendant fixture, as this will play a huge role in the type of fixture you ultimately choose.

Task Lighting
This is what most pendant lights are installed for – illuminating an area where activity and tasks frequently occur, such as over a kitchen counter or a work desk. Designer pendants, however, offer the ability to clearly illuminate the area in which you need to work without offering distraction or hindrance.

Decorative Lighting
Designer pendant lights are currently at the forefront of the latest ‘fashion’ for home interiors. Pendant fixtures are available in a wide range styles and designs, from fixtures that take on the appearance of a flower to ones that are crafted from sea grass. If you do not care about the amount of illumination your pendant produces, opting for decorative fixtures is fine.

Ambient Lighting
This is not an overly common reason for pendant lights to be installed in a home, but it is true that many people use designer pendants for creating an ambience in a given room. By adding a dimmer switch, you can increase or decrease the amount of illumination that your fixture produces without touching the light itself or requiring the installation of additional ones.

The first step in choosing designer pendant lights for your home is to decide why you need them – for task lighting, decoration or ambience. Once you have made this decision, you can begin to look at fixtures that are specifically designed for this use.

Unusual Places To Install Designer Pendant Lighting

People who love designer pendant lighting will know just how attractive these fixtures can be, even becoming a focal point of the room in many cases. It is for this reason that many people look for unusual places to install pendant fixtures in their home – the usual places (such as the living and bedrooms) simply don’t cut it for these designer enthusiasts.

Have you ever thought about installing designer pendant lighting in the following spaces of your home?
Bathroom: if you would love to turn your bathroom into a luxurious oasis, why not suspend a single pendant from the centre of the ceiling or over the bathtub so that its light bounces off the mirrors and other surfaces of the room?
Kitchen: it is often said that pendant lighting is unsuited for task purposes, but if you suspended 3 or more fixtures above your bench at regular intervals you can light up the space. On top of this, the lighting will make the whole room appear more attractive.
Above stairs: falling up or down stairs can be a real hazard in any home, so why not install an attractive pendant or cluster of fixtures in the stairwell so that people can see their way clearly as well as enjoy the light’s visual appeal.
Outside: why not dress up your outdoor entertaining area by hanging pendant lighting around the space? Pendants are suitable for installation on verandahs, patios and pergolas, as well as looking fantastic when suspended nearby to water.

If you want designer pendant lighting that is functional while making a statement, don’t just stick to the usual boring locations of the living and bedrooms when installing fittings. Why not choose pendants for other areas of your home and see what a difference it can make.
